Who wants to be a celebrity?

September is here and I have made a resolution. I do not ever want to be a celebrity. There was a time (eons back) when i wanted to be rich and famous. Not anymore. Apparently (and the Guardian shares my view) being a celebrity today is definitely not in. The papparazi could kill you (look at what they did to Diana), mobs could feel and rough you up (look at our long suffering Bollywood heroines), someone somewhere could earn millions of megabucks by clicking you on their cellphone, and, if you are stupid sometimes (which we always are) you get put behind bars and made an 'example' for other people! (look at Sanjay Dutt)
Everybody knows our legal system lets the big fish get away (politicians, underworld dons, masterminds of evil) and revels over netting the poor celebrity because they are the people who make headlines and make one believe that the system is working.

Besides, once you are a celebrity, you kind of move away from reality. You stop trusting people. You are surrounded by a small group of advisors whose livelihood depends on your being famous. You have to live up to an image and slowly you lose grip on yourself. The next thing you know you are hooked to drugs, alcohol, driving around like a maniac or shaving your head to stay in the news! God! Who wants a life like that? I can understand how desperate Paris Hilton must be feeling when she doesnt find her name in the newspapers. Tearing her hair out to think of something sensational...
So I am happy where I am, thank you very much. Please dont give me an award ever, dont make my books bestsellers and dont for heavens sake, keep tabs on me.
