Rules of life

Sitting at a hospital reception I saw a senior doctor come very awkwardly and ask for his fee money from the receptionist. The doctor seemed most embarrassed and uncomfortable asking for what was rightfully his morning's earnings. (It was an OPD and one receptionist was catering to about ten consultants.) It got me thinking that no matter how qualified and talented you are, you still have to learn some things in today's world. For example, being assertive, selling skills and basic inter personal skills. A simple thing like asking for money can become a nightmare for many people. I know I'm very bad at it. That's why I've been short changed many times by publications with smart alec accounts departments. I cannot haggle and i find it really embarrassing to remind people about what they owe me more than twice.
Life is tough. You cant just live like an ostrich doing the bits you like and ignoring the ones you dont. Such is the irony.
